Industrial robots operate in an enclosed and controlled enviornment and are often fixed at a single location on a production line, both of which make them easier to program than general-purpose robots. Many follow a fixed procedure on each item that passes, often initially trained by following the movements of a human operator. Moving robots are also used for transporting goods, especially in large warehouses; while these environments are simplified, with spaces between shelving designed to accomadte the robots, they do need to use more sophisticated planning and react to unexpected circumsatnces, especially as they often operate alongside human staff.
